Last Saturday team Atomic headed off to celebrate the local addy awards put on by the GDAA.

It was surreal to look back on the last year and review the accomplishments we have made as a company. 2009 brought great new clients, excellent creative, killer software and a staff that tripled in size.

Although we don’t measure success by trophies it sure felt good to bring home seven awards, including one gold, three silvers, and three bronze addys.

So thanks to everyone who makes us a fun, exciting and creative place to work and all the great clients who allow us to share what we love doing most.

Book Review, Twitter Power

Twitter Power is the latest book on Twitter Marketing by Joel Comm, Internet marketeer and Adsense Guru.

While social media marketing is still in its infancy and marketers clamor onto cheaper, quicker, and more trackable methods of pushing their wares or services everyone is trying to figure out a few tried and true strategies for success on different hotspots such as Facebook, MySpace and the new rising start Twitter.

Twitters unusual success stems from its ease of use and simplicity. Joel explains the best case strategies for starting off strong with a proper brand, following a reliable pattern, and gently leading users on a path to help businesses and individuals monetize on this intimate new networking tool.

Although a few chapters are a bit overkill and feel like the author is just trying to fill up space by breaking it down for a third grader, the overall the book is well done. The author has a clear voice and presents the material in a fun friendly manner. Each chapter builds on the last and makes logical sense. In a weekend or two you can be completely caught up to speed and ready to start putting Joel’s strategies to the test.

Slick Plan

Wanted to give a quick heads up about Slick Plan, the new web app were creating at Atomic Interactive (a Dayton, Ohio website design firm).

Slick Plan is an web based flow chart software created for web designers. It easily creates beautiful website site maps on the fly. It lets you create complex site maps in minutes and allows them to be sent online via HTML links or exported as PDF files. The best part… it’s free.

Fighting Childhood Obesity

Wanted to let everyone know that Atomic (a Dayton website design) got a nod in the Dayton Daily News yesterday for its recent partnership with Montgomery County Public Health Department on ‘Get UP Montgomery County‘, an anti-obesity initiative focusing on children ages 2-12. Check it out here.

The Ultimate IE PNG Fix

Just a quick hats off to Drew Miller who wrote the DD_belatedPNG script. This is by far the easiest and most elegant solution for those of us who still have to support IE6.

Unlike other options available this script supports transparent PNGs in a variety of ways including: CSS background properties, pseudo classes and JavaScript animation.

Thanks Drew for the fantastic resource, its been added to my library of essential web development snippets.

A Proper Welcome

After years of threatening to do it and about a million cool ideas that never materialized I finally managed to get my personal blog up. I have to give thanks to Design Disease for use of their Composito theme on which I built the framework of my site. It took about a week and a half of ignoring a few responsoblilities and re-arranging my schedule but it feels great to finally have something new.

Expect posts on just about everything… graphic design, web development, family news and quite possibly some dorky things I find incredibly funny.
